Construction Birthday

For my son’s 2nd birthday I had wanted to do something with trucks or tractors since he loved playing and watching them. When I was googling some ideas, I came across some printable PDF files for sale on Etsy that were construction theme party signs such as “Caution, Hyperactive Zone” & “Danger High Sugar Voltage”, that were perfect! Thus a Construction Party was born.

His birthday banner was made using clip art (four vehicles and a hard hat) that I enlarged and cut out of cardstock and glued to a long strip of black cardstock that I drew white lines on to look like a road. aj-2nd-bday-party-tableThe signs hanging around, “Crew Entrance” outside, “Caution High Sugar Voltage”, “Hyperactive Zone”, “Dig In”, and “Caution Fuel Station”, inside, as well as the caution signs on the table listing what each food item was, were purchased PDF files on Etsy. The Construction Vehicle hanging cutouts were from Birthday Direct. Small wedding favor white buckets, at Family Dollar (think they were 3/$1), were filled with mustard or mayo for the sandwiches (these work very well for snacks for the kids even after the party. We sent some home with the kids and kept some ourselves & my kids love having their goldfish or snack mix in them). Got an empty paint bucket from Lowes and created my own paint company sign for it on my computer. I inserted a piece of styrofoam inside the paint can and covered it with a piece of orange construction paper to look like paint. For the “paint brushes” I made a pan of Rice Krispy Treats and cut them into rectangles, pinching the ends some to look more like a paint brush. Then, I stuck a popsicle stick in it and dipped the ends into melted colored chocolate that I had purchased from a local cake supply store. Cut a slit into the construction paper on the paint can and insert the paint brush sticks into the styrofoam. The Dumptruck Treat Stand (next to the paint can), I purchased from Oriental Trading Company, and filled each cone with chex mix. The Construction Zone tablecloth, dinner plates and lunch napkins were also purchased from Oriental Trading Company. aj-2nd-bday-partyAs was the Construction Cone Molded Cup with Straw (the 6 cones pictured in the middle with the clear accordion looking straws) in the “Fuel Station”. I had purchased a few of the cones to the right (with the skinny yellow straw and black on the bottom) and didn’t like them at all. The straws came out easy, and they were bigger than could be held easily by a two year old. The clear accordion straws kind of sealed the top so it didn’t spill as easy. The kids (& parents) loved them. I would recommend getting a small funnel to making filling them up, easier. The top of the cone unscrews for fill up, but the opening is still somewhat small.

For the entrance to the party, I used orange safety cones, caution tape, and a tablecloth with the sides folded under so only the “road” was visible, that I found at Party City. The signs on the railing and door, were the previously mentioned PDF files from Etsy. This theme was so much fun and my son loved all the decoration. A lot of them we still use (such as the safety cones that we put out as an obstacle course for the kids bikes/scooters and they love just stacking and unstacking them haha).img_7183
