Made this cake for a good friends 30th birthday, at the request of her husband. All he said was he would like it to be a Lord of the Rings cake, preferably with pictures of her favorite characters and two favorite swords from the movies. With that knowledge, I was given free range to create……
The birthday banner, the ring, and the swords are solid fondant. Cake, icing, and fondant, created the Hobbit house, and a fondant covered brownie, became a book. The entire cake is iced in buttercream with sugar sheet pictures of the main characters in the movies (Aragorn, Eowyn, Legolas, Boramir, Gimli, Gandolf, Frodo, Merry, Sam, and Pippin), on the sides. The map on the top, is also a sugar sheet printout from my local cake supply store. Piping leafy buttercream vines around, completed this cake perfectly.
