Pupcake Step-by-Step

Use a 2D icing tip to pipe roses onto the cooled cupcakes (similar to the video shown here) .

To make the head and paws, shape the Rice Krispy Treats (RKT), until they resemble the general shape of a head and four paws (two front paws and two back paws), as pictured.cupcakes with Rice Krispy head and paws

Roll out the chocolate fondant and cover the head shaped RKT, tucking the edges under, and repeat with all four paws. I used the blunt side of a butter knife to form the toe lines on the paws, as well as the mouth lines. White and chocolate fondant, rolled thin, were used for the eyes (using a template works well so the eyes will be the same size), and chocolate fondant, rolled thin, created the ears. Shape the pupils and nose from black fondant, and chocolate fondant for the eyebrows, a tail, and a small dog bone candle holder. The gum paste bow was purchased, already made, from a local cake supply store.img_7030

For assembly, lay out 17 cupcakes in a curve to resemble the dogs body. Place the puppy’s head and front paws at one end of the cupcakes, tucking the front paws under the ears, and the back paws and tail, at the other end. Using a little buttercream, attach the bow to the cupcakes behind the head. Place the dog bone with candle on the cake board and, if you wish, using a #4 icing tip and some of the chocolate buttercream, write “Happy Birthday”, or whatever the occasion might be for. There you have it, your pupcake is complete.
