Chocolate Chip Cookies

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

12 oz package semisweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Cream together shortening, sugars, eggs, and vanilla until light and fluffy. In a separate bowl, thoroughly stir together flour, salt, and baking soda. Stir the flour mixture into the creamed mixture. Blend well. Stir in chocolate chips nuts. Drop by tablespoonful, 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 min. Immediately remove from cookie sheet to cool on parchment paper or cooling rack. Makes approximately 3 dozen cookies.
